Anxiety
Do you struggle with constant anxious thoughts that don’t seem to stop? Are you unable to manage your stress levels? Do you worry about the future and often plan for the worst-case scenario? Do you have uncomfortable physical sensations like a racing heart, muscle tension, stomach aches, or headaches? Do you have perfectionist tendencies?
These are just a few of the topics I work with my clients on when exploring their anxiety. If any of these resonate with you, I will work with you to identify your symptoms and understand your anxiety triggers. We will explore areas of vulnerability that underlie your anxiety, usually linked to childhood experiences.
Working from a CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) meets Mindfulness approach, you will learn applicable tools and skills to help you build confidence in your own abilities to manage your anxiety.
Every time you have a thought based on anxiety, fear, worry, or other negative headspaces, your brain (and physical responses) are getting wired to continue to respond that way. After years of repeating these patterns, it can certainly make it more difficult to change your thought and behavior patterns, but it is possible to do so. CBT works by coaching your brain through a different reaction process and therefore rewiring the brain by imprinting new healthy neural pathways over the old unhealthy pathways. When we engage in CBT, we change critical neural networks that shape how we think, feel, and see the world, as well as what we believe to be possible. I will help you to correct unhelpful and self-defeating thinking by challenging your negative automatic thoughts and by shifting your perspective and responding differently. Additionally, I will help you develop healthier coping mechanisms, particularly relaxation techniques to reduce anxiety (meditation, breathing techniques, progressive muscle relaxation), which are essential while we are applying CBT due to how important the body is in our work.
